Just after the Civil War, A. J. (Andrew Jackson) Pendleton moved to
PENDLETON RANCH from Virginia in 1870.  He moved to the Gainesville
area to be near his father.  A. J. Pendleton lived here until his death in
1901.  A.J. Pendleton is buried here on
PENDLETON RANCH.
The Son of A.J. Pendleton, Eldridge Haze Pendleton, was in the wild west
shows in the early 1900's.  He raised a family on
PENDLETON RANCH .
Above is a portrait of Haze.  Left and below left are pictures of Haze and
the Wild West Shows. Below right is a picture of Haze and Brown Buck.
His daughter, Cora, lived on PENDLETON RANCH as
a child, but eventually moved to the city.
They had a son, Colonel James H. Adams
After Colonel James H. Adams, The Morrow family, a branch
of the Pendleton family tree, stemming from A.J.'s mother,
Jemima Kilgore, became stewards of
PENDLETON RANCH .
Hopefully this timeline has answered any questions
you may have about our family history or the history
of
PENDLETON RANCH .

Pendleton Ranch and other farms in the surrounding
area have a history of organic agriculture. The ranch
breeds Texas Longhorn cattle stemming from interst
in the healthful benefits of Texas Longhorn beef.
Around PENDLETON RANCH
To the left is a clipping from an article in All Around
Gainesville from 1984. It is titled "Frontier Renegade".
Aside from being the namesake of Gainesville, General
Gaines is known for arresting former Vice President Arron
Burr after Burr shot Alexander Hamilton in a duel.  General
Gaines' full name is General Edmond Pendleton Gaines.  We
suspect he is related to A.J. because both men are originally
from Virginia, and it may have played a role in A.J.'s
decision to move to Gainesville.

Our promise to you:

We allow our Texas Longhorn cattle to graze freely in our natural grassy pastures here at PENDLETON RANCH.
  • We vaccinate our Texas Longhorns to keep them healthy.
  • We do not feed, implant or inject growth promoting hormones, steroids or antibiotics.
  • We do not force feed grain or send our Texas Longhorns to a feedlot.
  • Our beef cuts are USDA inspected and approved.
  • We do not add colors, additives, preservatives, fillers as do many butchers .
  • Our beef is properly aged for optimal tenderness and flavor.

We believe in our product.  It is Heart-Healthy-Beef, lean, and rich in flavor. Please note, all natural, Grass fed
beef (including Texas Longhorn) will taste a little "wilder" than feedlot store beef. However, if you need to eat
healthy, and thought you had to give up red meat forever, you don't. Visit our nutrition page and you will see
why we only eat Grass-fed Texas Longhorn.
